I usually never do the family-travel thing over Thanksgiving (I save that for Xmas), but this year it's reversed. Therefore I must lay out the disclaimer that I will be posting significantly less for the rest of the week. I hate to leave you in your time of need, but in addition to the outlet links on the left, you should research your fav department store websites for all their details. For big box store circulars, check out BlackFriday.info, BFads.net or BlackFriday.com.
Happy Thanksgiving shopping!
And remember if you're midnight-madnessing: strategize. Eat early and take a nap. Then try not to panic as you watch midnight pass you by while sitting on your couch. Bide your time and let the turkey do its work on those eager beavers. Show up at the outlets at 4 or 5AM and get all the pre-6AM deals without having to hurt anyone!

Although this was not the weekend that 'counts' (by retail standards anyway), my trip to Woodbury Common was fruitful, and I made a lot of observations.
1. Go early. We got there at 10:30AM on Sunday, and the parking lot was 80% full with lots of people milling about. It wasn't ridiculously crowded with people, so shopping in stores wasn't bad. You just might have a hard time snagging a parking spot later on.
2. Don't bother with your VIP book of coupons. 95% of all stores are running special discounts and promotions, and that will probably go up to 99% of all stores come this weekend. In 11.5 hours of shopping, I think my aunt managed to use 3 coupons: one in Polo Ralph Lauren home, one in Levi's, and one in some kitchen store in the food court.
3. Get ready for waiting in lines. Coach, Gucci, and Ugg had stanchions and ropes, and I'm sure there will only be more. Burberry was madness.
4. The Movado outlet had watches from Coach and Lacoste which were very reasonably priced after discounting ($120-160). They also have 2 cases of fine jewelry in the back of the room that is 60% off.
5. The Ellen Tracy store is going out of business. It also has Caribbean Joe apparel (super casual wear) and it is all VERY cheap. I bought a $268 Ellen Tracy pencil skirt for $27.99.
6. The YSL store is well-stocked on bags. Muses, Muse Twos, Majorelles, Tributes, Calypsos, Downtowns, and others. Not exactly the popular colors, but much more than Prada has. They also have the lower berry patent Tribute sandals.
7. Off 5th has a very nice selection of private label (hear me out) Saks Fifth Avenue winter coats. Yes, they also have Tahari, M60/Miss Sixty, Michael Kors, Andrew Marc, and whatnot, BUT the private label coats are 100% wool fabric sourced from Loro Piana (the M60 coat I liked was only 40% wool, and the rest was polyester and rayon.) And they are only $200 after the discount. I was totally caught between 2 styles, but I picked a mid-thigh length grey one. The other, a short coat with toggles and a hidden zipper was so cute. I wish I could have gotten both!
P.S. The stock at Catherine Malandrino is 95% size P. If you're size Petite, you need to swing by.

This weekend only, Oak is clearing out some merchandise at 70-90% off. Expect to see items from its private house label and BBlessing and Seven New York boutiques. I have a hunch this will be a good sale!

New update: I just have to say, holy crap you guys are amazing, and I truly admire your perseverance! (Note to eBayers: THIS is who you are screwing over-- people who wait THREE HOURS to do some shopping!)
I got in line at 8:45, got into the sale at 11:45 and didn't get out of there until 3:30 because of how long the line to pay was. The prices were great, but what a long day.Update: if you are still on the fence, here's a very recent update from a dear reader (and FYI - the Armani sale doesn't start til 3PM):
The line sure is long! And its not moving one bit. A lot of hungry women and some men waitin to get in. As usual its wrapped around the container store. Not a lot of armani takers thoThis will be a GREAT place to get holiday gifts! I hope the selection and discounts are good! Up to 90% off a selection of as-is merchandise. Everything includes the standard international warranty, and all serial numbers will be recorded (which means no eBay buyers!) <-- I think this is a best practice and should always be enforced when possible. I'm so tired of resalers swooping in and buying tons of merchandise for the sole intent of eBay-ing it. I understand if you want 1-2 extras for gifts or potential resale, but grabbing all you can just to unload it online? Get a real job. These are women waiting in line to buy themselves something nice!
What: Gucci jewelry and watch sample sale
When: Thursday, Nov 19 - Friday, Nov 20; 10AM-8PM daily
Where: Metropolitan Pavilion, 123 W 18th St
Cash or CC (V, MC, Amex, Disc) with ID only. No checks. All sales final.
One of the lovely girls on TPF just posted a Rachel Roy F&F 30% off code: "RRFRIEND", and it works on Rachel Roy New York and Rachel Rachel Roy. And sale. And it is returnable (just in case). Long being on the hunt for a dress for an upcoming charity dinner, I snagged this one for only $502. Ridiculous. I love online discounts!
And speaking of which, I never did put up that post on the Armani sale. Sorry :(
Armani warehouse sale: up to 80% off mens and womens clothing and accessories from all Armani labels: Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Armani Collezioni, and Armani Jeans. Looks like only A|X and Armani Casa are left out!
What: Armani warehouse sale

Bloomingdale's has a selection of items which are now 20-30% off. Clothes, winter coats and winter accessories. Use code "SALE4U" and take an extra 20% off (and this magenta Love Quotes scarf which retails for $88 can be yours for $29.57!). Or print the coupon to shop in-store. Ends Sunday, Nov 22.
Use code "CHWARM" to take 30% off one non-sale winter accessory (i.e., a hat, pair of gloves, or a scarf). You must be logged into your ColeHaan.com account to use the coupon. Ends Monday, Nov 23. They are also doing free shipping and free returns through Dec 2.
I'm a little over ombre, but this pashmina is gorgeous. You have to search for the three beanies they sell online, but honestly, if you live in NYC, you are so much better off going to the Marc Jacobs tchotchke shop (I think it is officially called Marc by Marc Jacobs Accessories) in West Village on Bleecker @ Perry. I haven't checked this year, but last winter they had nice cashmere beanies (in diff styles) for $59 with matching cashmere gloves for $49 (I think). Excellent little gifts.

For all the OCD freaks in your life (or maybe it's just you), a little stocking stuffer of Apple leather care will be highly appreciated. Although I have the full set, I have not used the cleaner (no need...yet). I do like conditioning my coated/treated leather bags (shiny leathers like Balenciaga, Cartier, YSL, Miu Miu, Prada, Chanel caviar) with the leather care product-- it makes them shiny and like new again, masking small scratches. I also find the water repelling spray very good. Again, I use it only on my treated bags (not on my Valentino or Chanel lambskin), but I've also used it on suede shoes and even my fabric umbrellas. (Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area)
LeatherStuff.com is doing 20% off with code "HOLIDAY". They sell an assortment of leather goods, but I've only bought Apple leather care products from them. Ends Monday, Nov 30.

Update: so I did go, and the wait when I got there (11AM) was 1 hour. They definitely bulked up inventory-- I was surprised that it looked not-sparse when I got in at noon, seeing as I've read the Racked.com reports of women waiting since 7AM. You could tell there were plenty of newbies-- women were grabbing 5-6 pairs of shoes as if they were dying and only Manolos could save them. The wait now is probably borderline 2 hours. Oh, and I walked out empty-handed, a FIRST.
P.S. If you wear size 40 or 40.5 this is HEAVEN for you. Go.
I thought I should probably come out and take a stance on the Manolo Blahnik sample sale brouhaha which is currently enveloping the sample sale world in angst. Unlike the Christian Louboutin sample sale, which is an iron-clad invite list event, the Manolo sale actually allows general public to trickle in after the VIPs are gone.
I, for one, have always appreciated this and shared it discreetly. If you're a loyal reader of mine, you've emailed me, and I've told you all about it :) This is a very time-sensitive 4-5 hour shopping window in midtown Manhattan (doors close at 4PM)!
Inventory is completely insufficient for a massive stampede-- there are probably only 80-100 pairs of shoes per size. In the past the sale has been really special. You are guaranteed to walk away with at least one pair (or two, or three) of great shoes, and the prices are unbeatable.
This year I must say that the doors have been blown open for this fall's sale. A fellow blogger took it upon herself to inform her legions of viewers, and to add to it, Racked.com picked it up. To say I am unhappy with the turn of events is putting it mildly. Being a former corporate events planner myself, I would not be surprised if the location or date changed to prevent the inevitable crush of women dying for Manolos. However, it would not be right to keep my readers out of the loop, so instead of my standard vague post on Thursday, visit the Racked.com page for all the details.
However, since I work 3 blocks away from the Warwick Hotel, I'll pop by Thurs AM to check out the melee and keep you all posted!

Chelsea Premium Outlets has posted their after-Thanksgiving sales/specials. They've also posted special additional parking information if necessary. (For instance, at Woodbury Common, it's very necessary).
Tanger Outlets also has their deals online, as does Prime Outlets.
Tip: most outlets throw the doors open at the stroke of midnight, so jostling for parking at 11PM could be the most migraine-inducing thing you ever do. Some seasoned shoppers have advised me that most of these women can only sustain a few hours of shopping before the turkey does them in. What does this mean for you? Show up at 4 or 5AM and get all the door-buster deals without the nerve-busting crowds.
Looking at the Woodbury promotions, I would definitely hit up: Giuseppe Zanotti, Chloe, Cole Haan, Catherine Malandrino, Hudson Jeans, Movado, Carolina Herrera, True Religion, Le Creuset, Zegna, LeSportsac (free bag!), Tommy Bahama, Tod's, Puma, Saks Off 5th, and Neiman Marcus Last Call. They seem to have the best deals/discounts.
Update: reader Donna has a report on the White+Warren sample sale. It's a winner!
The White + Warren sample sale was very similar to last yrs but this year they also had actually "samples" only sale. $35 for cashmere and $25 for non-cashmere. There were also cashmere slippers, I don't remember exactly how much they were but I think it was $15. They also have cashmere gloves for $25. It was very good sample sale. * Do not blame me if you start liking handbags more and more after spending some time on this site. TPF has started me down a path of spending and handbag-obsession (and ultimately self-destruction). These women are professional shoppers -- totally awesome/completely nuts. You WILL get caught up in the contagious enthusiasm. You have been warned.
YOOX.com is up to 30% off on select fall merchandise. I actually noticed last night- I LOVE the concept of a dream box! I'm stalking a few sweaters, winter coats and accessories :) AND, free shipping right now as well. Nice bonus.

So what Bloomingdale's had their F&F event just last month? There's no reason not to do it again! Reading through the exclusion list, which is surprisingly brief, I'm deducing that Dior shoes will be eligible. Hmmm...
From Monday, Nov 9 - Sunday, Nov 15, use code "HAPPY" to shop online. Or, print the flyer to shop in-stores from Wednesday, Nov 11 - Sunday, Nov 15. Bonus: if you spend $500+ during the F&F event, they'll even give you a $100 giftcard to spend on a future $250+ order. Not too shabby!
Update: I popped in yesterday after work to pick up a duvet cover, and it is total frickin' madness!! The inventory is awesome. They brought so much more stuff this time than last, and the prices are unbelievable. You'll find wool blankets (plain white ones) for only ~$50 (retail $250), plain white duvet cover sets for less than $70, sheet sets which are very reasonably priced, duvets, coverlets, and towels. They also have baby blankets for $15 each. Retailing around $50, I grabbed a handful of these just to keep for future coworker pregnancies. A nice, but not super committed gift (choices are yellow, blue, and pink). Another great gift: cashmere scarves which are priced at $35.
If you are thinking of going, you need to go. While I was there, I watched someone rip the last bathrobe off the mannequin and take the wool throw samples. I snagged a 1020 threadcount duvet cover for $489 (it retails for $1806 and is actually on Sferra's website!), and practically danced out the door. Go go go.
I'm so excited for the upcoming Sferra sample. I am in dire need of a duvet cover, and I scored some really great sheet sets at the last one, which was their first NYC sale. I'm glad they decided to do it again because I never went out to New Jersey. This time we can expect to find comforters & pillows, blankets, sheets, duvets, matelasse, throws, decorative pillows, table linens, towels, and bathrobes will be 60-80% off retail.

The Boss sale is here! This is by far one of my favorite sales even though 90% of the merchandise is for men. I'm a total nut for the daytime dresses (which I've never seen at this sale, sadly). However, I amuse myself by picking up a top or two at these prices ;) You can read my sale report of Soiffer Haskin's last Boss sale (in June). My DH's boss always goes to this sale and gets business shirts and suits. It should be mandatory for all guys to make a trip to this.
For men: you'll find sportswear, t-shirts, business shirts, suits, shoes, and accessories. The womens section has traditionally been fairly small with a few racks of clothing (skewed towards size 4 & 6), some bags, shoes, and accessories.

Kontainer, a storefront on Bleecker @ 7th Ave, is doing a sample sale. First, their official marketing:
Here is your opportunity to shop New York's biggest and most outrageous sale of the year with merchandise priced at 70-80% off retail.! At the Kontainer sale you will find collections for women and men from Stella McCartney, Moschino, COMME des GARCON, Versace, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Miu Miu, VIKTOR & ROLF, Chloe, Moncler, Vivienne Westwood, Dior, Balenciaga, Paul Smith, Giorgio Armani, Rich Owens and many more.I live a few blocks away from Kontainer, and I have popped in from time to time just to see what I could see. The only notable label I've seen for women is Ben Sherman, and for men Ben Sherman and Ralph Lauren. I'm fairly impressed to see that they claim to have amassed such a large collection of European labels.
Since I'm nearby, I'll pop in on Thursday and let you know if it's worth the hype. Incidentally, if you do go, you should definitely time your visit to a meal at Keste. The best pizza in town now that Una Pizza Napoletana is gone.
