Earlier this month, TheOutnet invited a small group of bloggers for a Dress Up event. We got to pick out disgustingly delicious articles of clothing and accessories from the site, have our hair and makeup done, and get our photos taken by a professional photographer in a professional studio with stark white backdrop, huge picture windows, studio lighting, and even a wind machine!! The day was heavily documented with Twitter posts by @THEOUTNET and us bloggers (using tag #DressUp).
The event was beyond fun. TheOutnet used hair and makeup people from The John Barrett salon at Bergdorf Goodman. Makeup artist Joe Hubrich made me look just spectacular, although he initially tried to scare my by saying things like, Think Black Swan! Mahogany Grace did my hair with a wide-barreled curling iron, and it turned out so lovely that I am considering buying an iron like the one she used. I actually slept on it and went to have my hair highlighted the morning after, and my colorist was still swooning over the style.
And then the clothes! We got to choose 2 looks, so for the first, I went more casual: a silk Stella McCartney blouse (very Three Musketeers meets feminine luxe), RED Valentino wide-leg jeans, and (although you can't see them) patent cut-out Alaia booties. 5" high. Perfect for giving me some height! Then, I spontaneously chose the pièce de résistance: an intricate, totally amazing Oscar de la Renta chain necklace (not online, unfortunately). I am in love with this outfit want to buy the whole thing!
My second look was an 'office outfit' consisting of a Marni blouse (in white), Narcisco Rodriguez pencil skirt, and Alaia heels. So polished, it was a perfect stylish outfit for the workplace! If only I could dress like this to the office everyday... but then my boss would never think I needed another raise.

As I'm sitting here looking at dresses on sale at YOOX, I'm pretty struck by the Under.ligne by Doo.Ri pieces here. Specifically, the crazy prices, such as slouchy dresses starting at $32. ShopBop launches wedding boutique
Two of my best friends are getting married within the next 3 months, so I am up to my eyeballs in wedding stuff!! (the upside: a bachelorette getaway in Puerto Vallarta next month) But the sheer number of boutiques and options is sometimes overwhelming (or, I've found, underwhelming).

Steven Alan for charity
Normally I whole-heartedly support shopping-for-charity events, but in the wake of an actual disaster of this magnitude, I feel it's a bit... inappropriate. I don't know, I just feel like these events, like Haiti, Pakistan, and now Japan deserve our direct support.
But, if you need to buy stuff anyway, this is a fabulous reason to do so. Steven Alan is donating 15% of all sales (not just margins!) to the International Medical Corps to go towards the Japanese victims.
For other ways to donate, here's a short list I took from ABCNews.com. I also hate to be a cynic, but charities are big business, so I encourage you to research a non-profit to determine their efficiency with your money (some organizations pass on only half of what you donate, keeping half for 'operational expenses'). Charity Navigator is pretty good, and I've included their efficiency ratings below. They also have a list of organizations who are donating funds to Japan (with their ratings).

I like Moda Operandi a lot, even though I have curbed my spending quite a bit due to school this fall. The concept is solid, the audience is there, and if you have the connections and network to make it all come together, more power to you. That being said, I always thought Lauren Santo Domingo was ok. I mean, little rich girl with super gorgeous well-bred husband, well, of course there's some built-in bitterness :)
But this Racked.com interview excerpt is just too much! She says she never washes her own hair (like, EVER), which makes me think, so either 1) she's pretty filthy, or 2) she's at a salon 3+ times a week to get her hair washed. Or I guess 3) she employs someone to bathe her (creepy). All seem ridiculous, but who has the TIME go to go a hair salon 3+ times a week?!?
