American Apparel sample sale riot in London

I have always felt sad that the Burberry sample sale happens in the UK, and not, alas, here. However, the NYMag post about the American Apparel sample sale riot in London has me re-thinking whether I'd ever want to go to a sample sale there! Are the crowds actually cheering the perps? And why are they fighting with each other?!? Did one take the last pair of gold lame hotpants? And don't the policemen there carry billy clubs they could clobber someone with (you know, like that person on the car)? I have so many questions!
