SpaFinder deal days open now

Update: the Guerlain Spa at the Waldorf Astoria has shut its doors. So, I'm guessing their spa deal won't work anymore :( Thanks to Deme for letting me/us know!

If you signed up for early access, SpaFinder deal days are now open for booking! I must say, I'm pretty impressed with the offerings. Bliss spas, Caudalie, Clarins, and the Guerlain Spa at the Waldorf? Yes please! I've booked myself for a microderm, and I'm thinking a massage is in order too. I'd love a facial, but that + a microderm in one week might be counterproductive. Sigh.

Aaaah! Where are you getting the microderm? I think I am going to try it... I'm nervous, is it painful?

  2. Hehe, I'm getting it done at New L'Institut Sothys (http://www.sothyspa.com/) for $100. I liked their website, and I've always thought that $50 microderms were too brief.

It doesn't *hurt* per se, but it does feel like someone is sand blasting your face. I have very sensitive skin, and sometimes I will feel a sting/burn as they get around my eyes, but I've never actually felt pain. Does that help? I LOVE microderms. I feel they are so effective!!

I have sensitive skin too, the slightest change in weather and I breakout! so annoying, I also find that NY is very polluted so that doesn't help. I will take your advice and try it out! Thanks that does help, and I know what you mean about the stinging around your eyes, I get that from just trying different face masks!
Do you look red for a few days after you've had it done? My friend had a chemical peel and she was red and wasn't allowed to wear make up or go into the sun too much... is there alot of after care required? (Sorry I am bothering you about this. I really do appreciate your help :D )

  4. YES! I find NY is so polluted too! It's just gross (esp in the summer).

My face is a little pink afterwards, but never the next day. I definitely pile on the serums and light moisturizer for the few days afterwards. You can wear makeup, but you are advised not to go into the sun or the pool or the beach (ocean water). I find that if I do it during the week, it's totally fine because my only exposure to the sun is into/out of the subway to/from work!

I'm a little afraid to do chemical peels because I think they can be quite harsh (and I heard they hurt like a motherf-!) Just the plain fruit AHA 'peels' I try burn like crazy. So, I'm not that brave! But I think you would be ok with a microderm-- I always see great, real, actual RESULTS after each one, and it makes me happy! (faded freckles and acne scars, mostly)

Absolutely! The subways are so grose! I feel like I'm in a dirty sauna ugh. (thus spending way too much money on cabs in the summer!)

Ahaaa, so Monday would be a good time of week. I guess that makes sense, why should you go into the sun and ocean water to ruin the wonderful skin you've just revealed!!!

That's funny, my friend was not a happy bunny for a few days after. She was so red, poor girl.

Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how it goes!

OMG! Deme again - I just found out why I can't find Guerlain Spa at the Waldorf listed on the Spa Week website.

I just called the spa and the recording says "As of today Aug 20, 2010 Friday, our Spa Management Company has just informed the Waldorf that they are shutting our location down immediately (today). 212 872 7200

Feel bad for the staff and for me as I always wanted to try this spa :-(

  7. Aww, that does suck for the staff, and for you, and for me! I've always wanted to try a $600 facial (but everytime I thought about it, I was like, hmm, next time...) Guess there are too many people like me :(
