Jay Strongwater sample sale
Perfectly timed for those of us scratching our heads over what to buy for people who seem to have everything! The annual fall Jay Strongwater sample sale is in town. I might pop in to get inspired for relatives' presents. They'll have jeweled and enameled frames, pillboxes, tabletop accessories, and even samples! Everything is handmade and so ornate and definitely screams 'expensive', so of course you know Oprah, Elton John and Madonna are big fans. If you enjoy the colorful retro prints of yore and find yourself fancying Lilly Pulitzer's new Originals colllection, then start going through your wardrobe.

Sferra sample sale
Update: I popped in yesterday after work to pick up a duvet cover, and it is total frickin' madness!! The inventory is awesome. They brought so much more stuff this time than last, and the prices are unbelievable. You'll find wool blankets (plain white ones) for only ~$50 (retail $250), plain white duvet cover sets for less than $70, sheet sets which are very reasonably priced, duvets, coverlets, and towels. They also have baby blankets for $15 each. Retailing around $50, I grabbed a handful of these just to keep for future coworker pregnancies. A nice, but not super committed gift (choices are yellow, blue, and pink). Another great gift: cashmere scarves which are priced at $35.
If you are thinking of going, you need to go. While I was there, I watched someone rip the last bathrobe off the mannequin and take the wool throw samples. I snagged a 1020 threadcount duvet cover for $489 (it retails for $1806 and is actually on Sferra's website!), and practically danced out the door. Go go go.
I'm so excited for the upcoming Sferra sample. I am in dire need of a duvet cover, and I scored some really great sheet sets at the last one, which was their first NYC sale. I'm glad they decided to do it again because I never went out to New Jersey. This time we can expect to find comforters & pillows, blankets, sheets, duvets, matelasse, throws, decorative pillows, table linens, towels, and bathrobes will be 60-80% off retail.

Hugo Boss sample sale
The Boss sale is here! This is by far one of my favorite sales even though 90% of the merchandise is for men. I'm a total nut for the daytime dresses (which I've never seen at this sale, sadly). However, I amuse myself by picking up a top or two at these prices ;) You can read my sale report of Soiffer Haskin's last Boss sale (in June). My DH's boss always goes to this sale and gets business shirts and suits. It should be mandatory for all guys to make a trip to this.
For men: you'll find sportswear, t-shirts, business shirts, suits, shoes, and accessories. The womens section has traditionally been fairly small with a few racks of clothing (skewed towards size 4 & 6), some bags, shoes, and accessories.

Kontainer European label sample sale
Update: I dropped by and they DO have a few racks of skirts, pants, and blazers of Balenciaga, Commes de Garcons, Jil Sander, and other European designers. I wouldn't make a special trip for this, but if you're in the neighborhood, pop on by. All pieces are between $149-199.
