All I want for Christmas...
I'm the type of gal who has starts thinking of Christmas gifts in October. It's 50% me loving gift giving and 50% OCD anxiety over not finding something for everyone.
For the people on my list, I try and take full advantage of the F&F discounts and the relevant sample sales. Case in point: Sephora, Caudalie, Saks, and Christofle. Now, since my friends read my blog, unfortunately I can't share what I've gotten them. Suffice to say, I've definitely started. If you're doing your shopping online, keep an eye on the Google Calendar widget I have in the upper-right. I'll be listing whatever site discounts I find, and this weekend I'm going to get the November InStyle magazine and add a whole bunch more!
My DH and I impose a $200-ish limit on our Xmas presents to each other because our birthdays are such lavish affairs. However, $200 is a really difficult limit! It's in that little-too-low-for-the-nice-stuff, little-too-high-for-necessities area. I'm toiling over ideas, but here's my start. (I'll work on my hubby's gift in another post).
The #1 item on my consideration list so far: the James Perse Infinity cashmere scarf, $195. It just looks so practical and soft, and sometimes I just can't deal with the trailing ends of a long scarf.
The #2 item: the James Perse ribbed poncho tunic, $225. Yes, I really really adore James Perse. It comprises about 60% of my casual wardrobe, the rest being jeans, dresses, and graphic tees. This would be a nice layering piece, or for just lounging around my apartment if the dodgy heating hasn't kicked on yet.
The #3 item: a pair of booties. These Dolce Vita Wish Wrap Tie ones are so cute, and the price point is pretty low for booties at $215. I wouldn't feel bad tromping through the snow and slush. The only thing is, to get the full cute-effect, you'd have to wear them with a skirt and tights, which could get chilly.
What would you ask for? $200 is not enough for a cashmere sweater or a dress, but I'd feel lame asking for makeup or a pair of jeans or a giftcard. Normally I'd want the $200 and get something good at a sample sale, but receiving cash for Xmas seems like a faux pas-- that only feels acceptable when coming from my parents ;) Thoughts and suggestions welcome!

Time for a new winter coat? Check out the Andrew Marc sample sale flyer, courtesy of Racked.com. The sale is at a unique location - the Hotel Pennsylvania, which always makes me think of The Shining. The carpet, wallpaper, and wood paneling just make me envision blood gushing towards me. (Do I have issues? Yeah, maybe.)

Valentino sample sale
Aside from the bags, another little bit of information caught my eye: WEDDING GOWNS. Um, seriously? A Valentino wedding gown? It almost makes me wish I hadn't gotten married already, although I love love love my dress. WARNING: now going totally off topic... And since all girls love showing off the dress, I'm more than happy to post the stock photo and an 'action photo' for the curious. And as a side note, what have you done, or what would you do, with your wedding gown? I bought it new (but on sale of course), had it altered, wore it on my wedding day, and had it cleaned and box by Madame Paulette for a tidy $800 (oh yes, that little bit will cost you). Now I have no idea what to do with it. I'm not planning on having kids, and I considered Trash the Dress, donating it, or making drapes out of all that fabric.
Back to the topic at hand: Valentino sample sale. Indeed aside from the 'limited selection' of bridal gowns, there will be womens clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories, and even some stock for men (clothing and accessories)!

Brooks Brothers Black Fleece womens warehouse sale
BB Black Fleece is having a big warehouse clearance of womens clothing, accessories and outerwear. Prices look pretty good, and you can bet it's going to be full of female bankers just by looking at its location. I would not go around lunchtime to fight the crowds and opt instead for the more meeting-friendly times of mid-morning and afternoons.

Update: Racked.com has gotten the debrief from a sale previewer. I suppose since last year's sale was denigrated to such embarrassing degree they've stepped it up this year. The item to run for bags. Racked reports:

Dueling for your lunch hour: Saks joins the fray
My morning is filled with HauteLook, RueLaLa, Beyond The Rack, and One King's Lane (I love house stuff), and usually I can get some work done before I need to mentally prepare myself (and my mouse clicking finger) for Gilt at noon. Since Neiman Marcus joined in the lunchtime sales, it's been a bit more hectic, but now Saks has thrown it's hat into the ring. At 50% off, the current season selection at NM and Saks is pretty enticing. Granted, the NM one has sucked lately, but today's Saks kickoff was amazing. Alexander McQueen dresses, bags, and scarves, Marc Jacobs cardigans. It sold out of most stuff within the first 10 minutes. I'll be checking this one out every time.
