Sferra sale report, NJ warehouse sale, 20% online discount

Sunday I woke up before noon (a rarity) to get out to Chelsea Market and hit up the Sferra sale before heading to LGA to pick up my mom. It was the last day of the sale, and inventory looked fairly decent and well organized. As I chatted with the sale staff, they pointed out giant mounds of cardboard boxes hidden behind the linen curtains. If the sheer number of empty boxes was any indication, the sale was a huge success and they moved a tremendous amount of inventory. Price points were also more than fair. Decorative throw pillows were $29, wool/alpaca bed throws (the ones that go across your feet area) were $69, and sheets ranged from the very affordable to the very discounted super expensive stuff. Grande Hotel sheet sets were in the $150-170 range, but you could nab some 400-500 threadcount sets for $250 or 1000+ threadcount sets for $495 (retail $1800+). They also had velour terry bathrobes, towels, table cloths, napkins, and bedspreads. Everything was perfectly packaged and would make for GREAT gifts. I walked away with 2 sheet sets and a throw and very much look forward to the next sale (where I'll go the first day instead of the last!). You walk out with a gorgeous Sferra shopping bag as if you had been shopping at their boutique.

To thank you for your purchase/visit, they also give you a coupon for Sferra.com. Use code "NYC20" to take 20% off your entire order through Friday, July 31.

And if now you're really bummed, expand to see the details on the upcoming NJ sample sale, which, I've been told is more of a treasure-hunting experience. While the NYC sample sale is all brand-new overstock/discontinued merchandise, the NJ sale has different inventory: there are returns and imperfects mixed in with the overstock/discontinued goods, which are lower priced.

If you are the ultimate luxury bargain hunter, you need to keep this sale in mind for next year (which they said they are definitely considering).

I went to the Sferra sale on Saturday and have to admit that the prices are a lot higher than the warehouse sale in NJ, even the outlet store in NJ. Granted the selection at Chelsea was better than the normal outlet, but the prices are much better. You can get nice thick cotton "wool" blankets for $29 at the outlet and sheet sets for around $150 or so. But at the warehouse sale, you can do so much better. One year I got a set of linen sheets for $99. And linen napkins for $10 a 4 pack, table runner for $10-$15 (depending on size) as well as a lot of other nice simple plain sheets (no crazy patterns) for cheap. I think it actually comes out to something like 75% to 80% off retail at the warehouse sale. If you have the time and a car, I would really recommend going to the warehouse sale this week.

  2. Yes, I spoke to Sferra's staff about the difference in the sales and was told that the NYC sale was all first-quality overstock/discontinued merchandise. The NJ sale is a lot of irregulars and returns in addition to overstock, but not necessarily 100% of it is first-quality. Also the NJ sale, he said, is more of a 'rummage' sale, more like a Century 21 dig-for-it experience (less organized, everything in giant boxes).

But I agree, if you are on a tight budget and not so picky about pristine packaging, you can (and should) find a better deal at the NJ warehouse sale.
